Description:- Full form of W.B.C.S.(Exe) is West Bengal Civil Service (Executive), it is the civil service commission of the Indian state of West Bengal. WBCS usually conducts the exam for recruitment deputy magistrate or deputy collector. Applicants can start their career as an officer after completion of two years of compulsory administrative training by the candidate under the administrative training institute of deputy magistrate, deputy collector, and block development (BDO). Cadre officers carry out major administrative functions at various levels in various departments of the state. The highest rank that an officer of WBCS (Exe) can achieve is the departmental secretary. Three posts of District Magistrate in the state of West Bengal are reserved for these officers. WBCS (Exe) officers can be nominated at a later stage of their career to become Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers. 
The Public Service Commission of West Bengal arranges competitive examinations for the WBCS (Exe) and other comparative posts, every year in three phases.

The WBCS state services exam is conducted in three different stages:

  • The first one is the Prelims.
  • The second one is the Mains.
  • The third one is the Interview.

Candidates have to pass each stage in order to be eligible for the final stage, if a candidate passes the prelims, only then they can give the mains exam, after clearing the mains exam the candidate would be summoned for the final stage that is an interview.

Prelims exam


There is one objective type paper for 200 marks. The duration of the WBCS exam is 2.5 hours. The Prelim exam is only a screening test, and its marks (200) will not be considered for the final selection of the candidate. the Prelims Exam tests the level of knowledge as that of a graduate of any faculty from any recognized university, clearly stated by the commission's notification.

Mains exam


After scoring the passing for the WBCS Prelim exam candidates have to appear for the WBCS Mains exam. There will be an Optional Paper that consists two paper the candidate has chosen earlier while filling their Application form apart from this WBCS Main exam consists of six compulsory papers. Paper 1 and paper 2 will be descriptive type and also that option paper will be descriptive. Candidates need to attempt all the papers and score the passing marks to qualify for the Interview round.

About the Arithmetic & Test of Reasoning

WBCS Interview Test:-
Candidates who qualify for the WBCS Mains Exam are called for the ‘Interview’ Round. Candidates will be interviewed by a Board appointed by the WBCS. The interview is more of a purpose conversation intended to explore the mental qualities and analytical ability of the candidate.
